<![CDATA[What is FSC?]]> Earth-Friendly Printing

We are concerned about how printing affects the earth.

Intech Printing & Direct Mail, Inc., is one of an elite group of printers in the United States that has made a commitment to being environmentally conscious. We want to assure our customers that the paper on which their materials are printed has been made from trees harvested responsibly by environmentally friendly standards.

As a leader in the print community for more than 20 years, we have become truly involved with sustainability concerns and are aware of the part we play with the environment. We have taken the necessary steps to earn certification from the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) a third-party certifying body that ensure the tree/wood product comes from an ethical and well-managed resource.

With the increasing market call for environmentally friendly products, these certifications enable our customers to make their commitment to the environment apparent. They can help conserve energy and have confidence in the fact that the paper being used comes from sustainable sources.

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) was created to change the dialogue about and the practice of sustainable forestry worldwide. This impressive goal has in many ways been achieved, yet there is more work to be done. FSC (www.aboutsfi.org) sets forth principles, criteria, and standards that span economic, social, and environmental concerns. The FSC standards represent the world’s strongest system for guiding forest management toward sustainable outcomes. Like the forestry profession itself, the FSC system includes stakeholders with a diverse array of perspectives on what represents a well-managed and sustainable forest. While the discussion continues, the FSC standards for forest management have now been applied in over 57 countries around the world. In 1995, FSC-US, located in Washington, D.C., was established as the national “chapter” of FSC.

It’s purpose is to coordinate the development of forest management standards throughout the different biogeographic regions of the U.S., to provide public information about certification and FSC, and to work with certification organizations to promote FSC certification in the U.S.FSC-US has a national presence through the work of its Board of Directors, members, staff, and regional standards coordinators.
